From March 12th to 16th was held in Dharamsala the XIII Edition of Mind and Life, under the extraordinary leadership of HH Dalai Lama and the presence of educators and scientists of the caliber of David Goleman (author of “Emotional Intelligence”), Richard Davidson and Michel Boivin.
Over 200 noted scientists, educational specialists, Buddhist scholars and philosophers representing diverse disciplines have arrived in Dharamshala to discuss on the topic of Secular Ethics in Education.
Alice Project was present.
It was the occasion to meet other people involved in educational field, create contacts, discover new realities and above all have yet another confirmation that ALICE’s method is not only on the right path, but also deeply at the forefront comparing to the other existing proposals.
During the meeting HH Dalai Lama said : “ The two prime purposes of the education is to expand the understanding of the external and the internal phenomenon and to strive to enable peace and reduce the chaos that exists in the world”: exactly what Alice does since more than 30 years.
Meeting with Todd More
During these days we got to know Todd More, an enthusiastic American who works for the Dalai Lama’s education office.
Todd knows Valentino and has great admiration for his work which he defined as “unique” in India both for the quality of the research carried out and for the breadth of the work done and the social level of the children to whom it is addressed.
He explained that HH Dalai Lama intends to start a project of secular education throughout India, trying to involve public schools as well.
Todd has officially invited the Alice Project to take part in the work necessary to achieve this goal by saying: “If there is a person in India who can make a real contribution, that’s Valentino“.
Moreover, Todd will certainly come and visit the school in August and involve others in this visit too. Besides, he said he was interested in participating in one of the training sessions that will take place in France or Italy to deepen the method. He also suggested to invite the Dalai Lama here again. He himself will work on this and will help us. We will have to prepare the letter of invitation and when our children will be visiting could make an invitation personally.
Meeting in Delhi
We were also invited to a meeting in Delhi attended by some organizations that deal with secular education. We could not participate personally, but we were present via Skype represented by Luigina De Biase and Awanish Mishra, our Dean of Sarnath.
The meeting was chaired by Tenpa Tsering, husband of HH’s sister and project manager. The Alice Project is open to a serious collaboration, independent and respectful of the immense amount of work carried out in the last 25 years of stay in India.
